But guess who had a problem with that? Jonah. He has a hissy fit. Blaming God for not following through on what He said He would, Jonah acts like a child. This prayer (verses 1-4) is nothing like his prayer earlier. But notice God’s response – once again: mercy. The mean-spirited prophet is taught his lesson with the help of a plant – with a question that remains to be answered; by Jonah, yes, but also by us: How much mercy should be extended in the name of God?
